STM32 Cricket Bowling Machine Controller: Embedded motor control and power electronics

Overview

A complete controller for a bowling machine. STM32F103 firmware runs two independent PID loops, reads both encoders with interrupts, takes speed, swing and current through the ADC and drives two PWM power stages. Simulink models cover BLDC commutation and the converters, and EasyEDA holds the schematic and PCB layouts.

The challenge

Ball speed and swing depend on two wheels holding different speeds under load. Each motor must be corrected independently, and the power stage must be designed and reviewed before the first powered test.

Key capabilities

  • Two independent PID loops with duty-cycle limits
  • Interrupt-driven encoder reading and RPM calculation
  • ADC channels for speed, swing and current
  • Simulink models of BLDC commutation, buck and buck-boost converters
  • Schematic and two PCB layouts in EasyEDA
